Knights on Wheels
Members of the 72nd Pythian District, with the help of Members of the Grand Council and other Pythians, ran the annual Knights on Wheels at Geomands Park in West Nyack. Started in 1997, this annual event brings together physically and mentally challenged adults -- many in wheel chairs -- for a day of outdoor fun in Rockland county.

North Shore Lodge #824 held a fundraiser event honoring Tony Mercado as Man of the Year. All the proceeds from the event including the raffle were donated to the Humanitarian Fund to support the Servicemen and Veterans Committee program to pay for postage of packages being sent to our soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world.

New City-Orangetown Lodge held its annual Scholarship Night. Scholarship awards were given to ten deserving high school seniors. In order to considered, the student must meet certain academic requirements, have substantial community service, and write an essay on friendship, charity and benevolence.

Pythian Dr. Smoller Fund Supports MJG
The Dr. Morris Smoller Social Service Fund benefits NYS Pythians and their families. The fund, established in memory of Dr. Morris Smoller, was established in 1983. New York's Grand Lodge routinely presents checks from the Smoller Fund to New York health care icons. One of the many health care institutions supported by The Dr. Morris Smoller Social Services Fund is the Metropolitan Jewish Geriatrics (MJG).

Knights donate toys to Kids
Many lodges in the New York Order (Grand Lodge) of Knights of Pythias distribute toys each holiday season at various hospital. Profiled below are two recent examples. The Dramatic Order Knights of Khorassan Habibi Temple 72 donated toys to the Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg. Representatives from the Knights of Pythias delivered toys at Winthrop Hospital from the Dixie Fund on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2009.

Pythian Smoller Fund Support Health Care Institutions
The Dr. Morris Smoller Social Service Fund, established in memory of Dr. Morris Smoller, had its beginning in 1983. The fund benefits NYS Pythians and their families. New York's Grand Lodge presented checks from the Smoller Fund to two New York health icons in November and one in December. The donations represent but a handful of the funds distributed by Smoller. Past Grand Chancellor Allan Greenberg and Past Deputy Supreme Chancellor Sir Jordan Levy presented a check from the Smoller Fund to the Metropolitan Jewish Home and Hospice, November 2. Grand Vice Chancellor Michael Sukenick and Past Chief Deputy Grand Chancellor Ron Klare presented a Smoller Fund donation to Cavalry Hospital in The Bronx, November 27. On December 7, Supreme Representative-Alternate Janet Levy (Pythian Sisters), Supreme Representative-Elect Sir Jordan Levy, and Sir Alan Krell presented a check from the Smoller Fund to the Sephardic Home.

Walk to Cure Diabetes
Pythians from from throughout New York supported Grand Lodge's effort on behalf of finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes. Each fall, many Pythians raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) by walking in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. The Grand Lodge and local lodges have raised tens of thousands of dollars in support of JDRF.
